How good a hand is AA in Texas Holdem Depends on how you play it.

Played tonight on Betfred Poker's $5 Jackpot tables, win 5 in a row for a $15,000 jackpot (i'm trying to finish in the top 2 in 5 for a $200 consolation prize) and so far i've done ok. Played 2 came 3rd and 2nd.
In the 3rd tourney, 3 people left, i'm third in chips with around 2900 which isnt that far behind the guy in 2nd. I'm in the big blind for 600 and am dealt 7 2 diamonds. First instinct oh dear, worst starting hand in poker (well unsuited it is). First position folds and the small blind calls, i check obviously. Flop comes J 6 3 all diamonds. Flopped a flush, only J high tho with a 7 and 2 in my hand so not unbeatable. I'm first to act so i bet the pot, not sure why but i did, he goes over the top all-in. I'm thinking if he's got the made flush like i have why would he go all-in. I call almost instantly and he turns over the best starting hand in poker AA. Turn and river no good to him and he's left with 118 chips compared to my 5,880. From this i continue and go on to win the tourney. Played 3 made the money all 3 times with one 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Not too bad for a nights work. All for now, time for bed.

First Blog

So, everyone else in the Poker Community i've met at Punterslounge.com has a blog so it's about time i started one. I look forward to bringing you (whoever you may be that is reading this) the latest exploits of mine, not just in my own World of Poker but also the rest of the big wide world.

So where to start? Well for those of you who don't know, before Christmas i was working as a temp in a sausage factory. Yes hilarious it may sound but i needed the money. You may question why someone who has a decent degree (2:2) ends up working in a sausage factory. Well a) i havent quite figured out what i want to do for my career and b) i really needed the money. The money for winning the Maxim King of Poker in 2006 has run out and needed to get some from somewhere.

So what is it like to work in a sausage factory you may ask? Well in one word, horrible!!It was not only for the fact that we were packing sausages or wrapping pigs in blankets (wrapping sausages in bacon if you didnt know) for eight hours a day but the fact that it was repetitive, smelly and also over 50% of employees didn't speak very good English. The fact that the majority of people didnt speak English meant that there wasnt much chat between the workers, well except when something went drastically wrong, which in itself made the eight hour shifts seem like days. Well that temporary job is over and done with and hopefully looking to get something permanent in the next day or two (got a phone call to make tomorrow about a possible job in Cheshire). Anyway enough for now will post again soon.
